Monkeypox: You Should Know
What’s that monkey pox? A new label was opened in 1958. The deadly smallpox virus was found in monkeys. It is named monkeypox virus. Fortunately, smallpox was eradicated in 1980 and the last case was found in 1977. Hericium disease is a disease transmitted from rare animals to humans. It first occurred in 1970. It mainly occurs in Central and West Africa. Among the Congo basin varieties, there are two varieties that appear to be more lethal, as well as the West African variety. Most human cases come from mammalian contact with body fluids. Cases outside Africa are rare. Human to human transmission is also very rare. When it occurs, it is spread by droplets in the large respiratory tract and requires long time close contact. Since 1958, we have discovered monkeypox and treated it with vaccines.

Human monkey pox
There are 6 people in Britain, 4 people in Portugal and Spain, and 1 person in Massachusetts. The patients who have gone to Canada have no known cases. 2021 Cases related to African travel occurred in Texas and Maryland. In 2003, 47 cases occurred in 6 states of the United States, all of which can be traced back to the contact between pet prairie dogs and imported mammals from Ghana. The infectious disease did not die.

There are currently more than 22000 patients in the United States and nearly 60000 in the world. In the United States, more than 60% of patients occur in New York, California, Illinois, Washington and Florida. The first monkeypox death in the United States recently occurred in Los Angeles. It is reported that 19 people died worldwide. All the dead were patients with impaired immune function. Although the number of people is increasing and a few people have died, people still believe that it is mainly transmitted through direct skin contact, but there are some air borne cases. It is still a universal self limiting disease that generally does not require treatment. 97% of cases were related to MSM. Recent examples seem to be different from the typical ones in Africa. In addition to extensive vesicular rashes, many people also have small local rashes such as papules or blisters. It may be limited to the anus or sexual organ area, or even the mouth. However, it still spreads to the skin as you can see in some pictures. It can be mild or very painful. This is mainly manifested in men who have sex with men. So far, there is evidence that air has spread, but close contact is usually required. Complications may occur, such as encephalitis or brain infection.

The current case in Massachusetts may be related to less dangerous West African varieties. The mortality rate of this variety is 1/100. The mortality rate of Congo basin varieties is close to 1/10. In contrast, smallpox is 3/10 or 30%. On the other hand, the fatality rate of COVID is slightly more than 1%. Of course, depending on your age and overall health, the fatality rate is higher. The typical influenza mortality rate is less than 1%.
Symptoms of monkeypox
Monkeypox symptoms appear on the new label. Like flu, it is accompanied by headache, fever, chills, body aches and swollen lymph nodes. A rash that looks like chicken pox. At first, it bulges from flat erythema, becomes blisters or blisters, and then becomes dry and scabbed, similar to the sequence of varicella rash. The disease lasts for 2 to 4 weeks and is usually benign. Monkeypox is not currently considered as STD/STI. The current case seems to be between homosexuals and bisexuals. This may be related to body fluid exposure.
Treatment of monkeypox
The treatment of monkeypox seems to be effective for monkeypox, but it is achieved through new labeled vaccines and antiviral drugs. The United States has 100 million old generation smallpox vaccines, but the new generation smallpox vaccines are much less, but the manufacturing industry is growing. In short, unless there are high-risk behaviors related to exposure to high-risk monkey pox, or hunting in West Africa, or making high-risk travel, there is no need to worry in daily life. Compared with COVID, the transmission rate is very low. I know this is because we have known this virus for more than 60 years. This is different from novel coronavirus. Corona is a new, brand new world without any power.
